Are you a
person who wonders why they are here? God has placed you on earth for a specific
reason. You have a value and a purpose. Once you know Him, you can begin the
journey to fulfilling the reason for your being.
It’s
good to have a sense of where God is calling you. Sometimes though, we don’t
have a clear sense of God’s will in our lives.
We
ask, “what should I do God?” We listen and we wonder where we are to go or
what we are to do, but we don’t seem to have an answer.
Sometimes,
it’s because we have received an answer and we don’t like it, so we listen
for something else.
Sometimes,
it’s an excuse. Oh, I can’t do anything, because I don’t feel
“called”.
More
often, it’s because either we don’t do the things we already know about or
we’re stuck in indecision.
In
the first case, we expect to hear a distinct voice from God about His
personal will in our lives. Perhaps, he is waiting until you begin to obey His
general will for everybody as laid out in His Word.
A
preacher I heard recently put it this way “Why should God tell you the 5% of
His will that deals with your life, when you don’t deal with the 95% He has
already shared in the Bible?”
We’re
already told many things in Scripture about giving, forgiving, living, loving
and obedience. Perhaps once we start to do those things and draw closer to Him
we will hear His voice more closely.
In
the case of indecision, it is best to begin to attempt a few things and see
where they lead and trust God in what He has already told and shown you.
A
wise friend of mine using the expression “It’s hard to steer a parked
car.” Once the car is in motion, it is much easier to direct. Once we are
moving, seeking His will, it is much easier for us to respond to His desire for
our lives.
God’s
general will for you is twofold
1)
He wants you to be more like Jesus
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 8:29 NIV
2)
He wants you to tell others about Christ
Then Jesus
came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given
to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
very end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Now
you have no more excuses, you know what God wants. To find more specific
details, pray, read the Word and obey His teaching. You’ll begin to be guided
as to His specific will for your life.
Until
next time, may your relationship with Him grow closer, may you walk in obedience
and may Holy Spirit guide you.
