Christmas day is over and the presents are unwrapped. The decorations will come down soon. The turkey feast will soon become "Left- overs."
The eyes of most people will shift to the celebration of the coming New Year. There are parties to prepare for, resolutions to be made (and probably broken).
Jesus will have been tucked into a box in our hearts, as we get ready for New Years. For some people He will be brought out again at Easter, for others He’ll stay packed until next Christmas. Unless of course we’re in a desperate situation and then we’ll call to Him in prayer just in case.
As a young child, I can remember having friends like that. If there was no one else around to play with, or if I had an interesting toy, they were my best friend. Once a better offer came along, they were someone else’s best friend.
When they moved on, my heart would be broken. Yet when they came back, I craved their friendship enough that I’d forget all about the past and take them back as friends.
I wonder if that’s how God feels as we pack Him up for another few months or another year. I wonder if His heart breaks as we pack Him away. He doesn’t need our friendship, yet He loves us so much that His Son died for us.
Oh, He’ll wait patiently for us to unpack and call us back. He’ll stand at our door and wait be invited in again.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 NIV
You have a choice, will you keep Him or your daily life and experience the joy of His presence, or will you put Him away?
Until next time, may the God of all creation not wait in vain on your doorstep.
God bless.
