Look Up and Live

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.  Numbers 21:8-9

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.   John 3:14-15

The enemy uses every deception and wicked scheme to trip us up. He does not play fair! He plays to win at all costs! He knows our weaknesses and uses times we are most unguarded to strike. His favorite fiery darts are those that penetrate deep within us such as fear, guilt, bitterness, shame, unforgiveness and rejection. We use many defenses to bury these issues. These issues often manifest with symptoms such as control, manipulation, intimidation, anger, avoidance, withdraw, and many others to mask the truth. The truth is that by burying pain and other issues, we simply drive it deeper within, yet it continually plagues us.

When we exhibit symptoms of an illness, we go to the doctor and allow him to look us over thoroughly to determine why the symptoms are manifesting. Although he may give us a prescription to deal with the symptoms, his ultimate goal is to deal with the root illness plaguing us.

Christ also wants to be our Great Physician; however, we must be willing to look to him and allow him to thoroughly examine us, so He can heal all the underlining sin that plagues us. He wants us to have victory, deliverance, and freedom. As we know, whom the Son sets free is free indeed! Remember, it is the truth that sets us free. Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Word of God is the Truth! God will use His Word, which is Christ, to divide between soul and spirit if we truly want to made well.

God instructed Moses to have the Israelites look at an image representing that which was sent because of their sin, in order to be cured. We too must take a hard look at the very thing that plagues us, so we too, can be healed. As we look to Christ, who was lifted up on the cross and became sin, we believe it was His death that paid the price for our freedom. Praise the Lord for His perfect plan before the foundation of the Earth!

What areas of your life is the Word of God cutting away? Are you willing to allow it to cut deep so that you may be made well? What plague is trying to kill you?  Looking to Christ and believing in Him brings life and life more abundantly!
