Go Wash

2 Kings 5:10  Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, "Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan , and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed."

Matthew 18:22  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Leprosy in the Bible is much like offences. Leprosy was greatly feared. Today people try so hard not to offend. Everyone tries to be politically correct and tolerant. Leprosy slowly ruined the body and was often fatal. Offences that are not dealt with turn into unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment. These fester in our soul and can eventually affect our physical health as well. Leprosy led to separation from the community. Offences separate us from a close relationship with the Lord, because we are operating out of our soulish realm through emotions rather than our spirit. God is spirit and those who worship must worship in spirit and in truth. In the New Testament, Jesus touched the leper when no one else would. Consequently, the leper was healed by His touch. We too, can be healed of offences if we come to Jesus for His touch in our lives. Elisha told Naaman to Go wash seven times and his flesh would be restored. It is interesting that Jesus told us not to forgive seven times but seventy times seven. The new covenant always holds us to a higher standard. Naaman was told his flesh would be restored. If we obey the word and allow it to wash over us and cleanse us just as the Jordan cleansed Naaman, God promises to restore our souls. Forgiving offences does just that. It restores our souls. Today if you find yourself taking an offense, run to Jesus and let him heal you of a potentially deteriorating and fatal disease.
