And while he was still talking with them, there was the messenger, coming down to him; and then the king said, “Surely this calamity is from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”

Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the LORD: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria .’” So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” 2 Kings 6:33  – 7:2

The king of Israel had just heard two women speaking of eating their children because of the great famine in the land. He was distraught. The prophet had told him to wait upon the Lord, but it didn’t seem that the Lord was going to deliver them. Have you ever felt like the king before? He was very discouraged and began to question, “Why should I wait on the Lord?” Elisha then prophesied the Lord’s deliverance would come the very next day. The king’s officer immediately spoke words of unbelief! Because of his unbelief, he saw the deliverance, but was not allowed to experience it, because his life was taken.

The enemy is constantly trying to get us discouraged and worn out in faith, which will lead us into doubt and unbelief. Daniel 7:25 says, “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High.” He will try to get you to buy into his lies so you will grow weary, turn aside from the truth, put your trust in something else, lose hope, and give up.

The word of God tells us why we should wait on God. If you read Psalm 40:1-4, Galatians 6:9, Isaiah 40:27-31, you will find that waiting on the Lord has many benefits:

God’s timing is perfect. Sometimes we don’t see immediate answers, but God is working all for our good. Don’t move into doubt and unbelief, which will rob you of your blessing. As we wait on the Lord and trust Him, our faith is exercised. Waiting should not be a passive time. It usually is a time to battle the enemy. It is during this time that he will try to wear you out, so you will give up. He is out to steal your blessing and he will lie to you to do it.

Remember your weapon of warfare is the Word of God. Recognize his lies. Speak the truth and continue to praise and serve the Lord! God is faithful. Wait on His deliverance. It is sure to come. He promises you the victory!
